We have a fantastic opportunity to join the Central Logistics team at Greggs as our National Transport Manager. As a key member of our Central Logistics Team:-
You will lead a central Transport team of to optimise Greggs’ transport operations, ensuring safe, compliant, cost-effective, and high-performing distribution across both our Radial and Trunking Transport operations
The role is accountable for fleet management, driver performance, regulatory compliance, service delivery, and continuous improvement initiatives.
You will continually improve the Transport operation as new opportunities arise through changing technology, legislation and customer demand.
You will be required to liaise with internal stakeholders across logistics and the wider business and to collaborate with external providers, suppliers, regulators, and partners

About the role
18. This is a full-time role and will require travel in the UK and regular overnight stays away from home

20. Because this is a National role covering all our Logistics Operations, we are flexible on location
What you'll do
Strategy & Network Development
21. Lead the central transport function (Fleet & Compliance, Training & Safety, Transport Solutions)
22. Develop and deliver transport strategy aligned to the logistics business plan
23. Optimise and evolve radial and trunking networks
24. Deliver infrastructure and network transformation projects
Transport Operations & Performance
25. Oversee end-to-end national transport operations ensuring high levels of service, efficiency, and performance
26. Maintain Retail SLAs while optimising cost and utilisation
27. Support RDC/NDC performance across compliance, safety, and service
28. Drive performance through KPIs (OT, cost per shop, utilisation)
Compliance & Regulatory Management
29. Ensure full compliance with Operator Licence and UK transport legislation
30. Manage relationships with Traffic Commissioners, DVLA and other enforcement bodies
31. Maintain robust audit and governance standards across all locations
Fleet, Technology & Innovation
32. Own fleet strategy (procurement, lifecycle, utilisation)
33. Evaluate, implement, and optimise new technologies in fleet management, planning, and telematics
34. Drive continuous improvement through digitalisation, automation, and innovation
Safety, Risk & Training
35. Lead initiatives to reduce road and delivery risk through structured training programmes
36. Deploy training resources to maximise driver capability and safety performance
37. Ensure delivery point risk assessments are developed and effectively communicated to drivers
Commercial & 3PL Management
38. Identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements
39. Evaluate outsourcing vs. insourcing opportunities
40. Manage 3PL performance and value
People & Culture
41. Lead and develop high-performing central transport teams
42. Promote a safety-first, performance-driven culture
43. Drive engagement through performance recognition ( Driver/Operator awards)
Project Delivery & Continuous Improvement
44. Lead cross-functional transport projects
45. Deliver process improvements and operational efficiencies
46. Provide insight and reporting to the wider logistics function
47. Drive continuous improvement across operational, safety, and cost metrics
About you
Essential
48. Significant senior experience in HGV transport operations
49. Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC)
50. Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation and compliance
51. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
52. Strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving capability
53. Proven delivery of operational and project improvements
54. Relevant logistics qualification and professional accreditation ( CILT, IRTE, SOE)
Desirable
55. Multi-site, cross-functional leadership experience
56. Trunking and multi-drop distribution
57. Experience with TMS, telematics, and transport technology
