Job Title: Voluntary Director — Finance & Governance
Company Description: A Life in Progress CIC is a Norwich-based community interest company dedicated to supporting people through life's toughest transitions. Our flagship project, Reboot Boxes, delivers practical care packages to people undergoing stem cell transplants at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital. We're currently a CIC with ambitions to grow, and we're exploring a future transition to charitable status.
Role Description: We're looking for a voluntary director to join our small, committed board and bring finance, governance, or legal expertise to the table.
We're not looking for an operational role. We have a clear mission, a strong sense of direction, and a founder-led team that gets on with it. What we need is someone who can offer informed guidance, ask the right questions, and help us make sound decisions as we grow. You'd be joining alongside our existing director (focused on fundraising and marketing) and our founder, who leads on social media, press, partnerships, and day-to-day operations.
What the role involves
* Attending quarterly board meetings (remote)
* Providing advisory support on financial planning, compliance, and governance
* Helping with annual accounts filing (particularly June/July)
* Acting as a sounding board on strategic decisions as we scale
What we're looking for
* Experience in charity finance, accounting, or legal/governance, particularly within CICs, charities, or social enterprises
* Comfortable in an advisory capacity rather than a hands-on operational role
* An understanding of (or willingness to learn about) CIC structures and governance
* Someone who's collaborative, pragmatic, and happy to guide rather than direct
* Aligned with our values: joy, community, authenticity, and doing things differently
What we're not looking for
* This isn't a paid role, it's a voluntary board position
* We don't need someone who wants to reshape the organisation — we need someone who wants to help us build on what's already working
Nice to have
* Board experience in the third sector
* Familiarity with CIC-to-charity conversion processes
* Based in or connected to Norfolk (but not essential, the role is fully remote)
