About the Role

We are looking for a full-time permanent Environmental Consultant to join our growing team.

As an Environmental Consultant, you’ll play a key role in the successful delivery of projects across our Design Team programme of works. You’ll support the development and implementation of ecological and environmental solutions, helping to deliver high‑quality design outputs that align with project programmes, safety standards and client expectations.

This role combines knowledge of ecological principles, environmental science and design innovation to develop solutions that leverage the benefits of the natural environment. You’ll contribute to projects focused on biodiversity enhancement, ecosystem services, climate resilience, river restoration, wetlands and nature‑based solutions.

Working closely with Senior Environmental Consultants, Project Managers and multidisciplinary teams, you’ll support projects from concept through to delivery, helping to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

Key responsibilities will include

* Assisting with project planning, programming and coordination of design outputs
* Undertaking desk studies, utilities searches, data collection and technical assessments
* Supporting the development of drawings, reports and technical documentation
* Contributing to innovative Nature Based Solutions (NBS) and sustainable environmental design approaches
* Supporting the preparation of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) and identifying project risks
* Reviewing and checking technical outputs to maintain quality standards
* Building and maintaining positive relationships with clients, suppliers and project stakeholders
* Supporting procurement activities and supply chain coordination where required
* Assisting estimators and senior team members with fee proposals, technical responses and tender submissions
* Contributing to the continuous improvement and growth of the Design & Build team

You’ll also have the opportunity to mentor junior team members as your experience develops and play an active role in shaping innovative environmental solutions across a diverse range of projects.

About You

We’re looking for someone who has:

* A degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Geography or a related discipline
* Experience delivering environmental or ecological projects within consultancy, design, or construction environments
* Knowledge of environmental design principles, habitat creation, river restoration, wetlands or Nature Based Solutions
* Experience using AutoCAD, ArcGIS or similar design/GIS software
* Strong technical reporting and communication skills
* Good organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks
* An understanding of project safety and quality processes
* A collaborative approach and desire to contribute to a growing team
* A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites when required

It would also be beneficial if you have

* Experience within Design & Build or water environment projects
* Knowledge of environmental legislation and permitting requirements
* Membership of, or working towards membership of, a relevant professional body
* River Condition Assessment Training
* Competitive salary dependent on experience
* Enhanced maternity and paternity leave
* Life assurance
* Time off for volunteering
* Regular training and career development opportunities
* Access to mental health support and professional financial advice
* Hybrid and flexible working arrangements
* Opportunity to work on meaningful environmental projects that deliver lasting positive impact

Why Join FiveRivers?

At FiveRivers, we’re passionate about creating sustainable environmental solutions that make a real difference. You’ll be joining a supportive and collaborative team where innovation, personal development and environmental stewardship are at the heart of what we do.
