Title: Middleham Castle Manager

Location: Middleham Castle, Middleham, Leyburn, North Yorkshire, DL8 4QG

Salary: £27,424 p.a. pro rata / 36hrs per week April - October, 0hrs November - March

Would you like to work for the charity that cares for hundreds of historic sites in every corner of England? We are looking for a motivated manager to join our team at Middleham Castle. This is a full-time role between April and the end of October, working an average of 36 hours per week with a few occasional hours required between November and the end of March. No history background? No problem. What is important to us is a passion for people and excellent customer service. We are looking for a manager who enjoys working alongside their team and understands what it takes to deliver an engaging visitor experience to a diverse audience.


Responsibilities

* Lead and inspire the team to deliver an engaging visitor experience and coach staff by example.
* Optimise opportunities to generate income and achieve site performance targets.
* Ensure the site and facilities are clean, presentable and well-maintained.
* Provide excellent customer service within a leisure and tourism environment and communicate effectively with visitors and colleagues.
* Work hands-on with visitors and engage the local community about on-site activities.
* Oversee safety and security of the site and its assets.
* Coordinate winter contractor access and support at other sites within the Mount Grace Cluster; may assist at events at other EH sites.
* From March to October: a variable 5-day week, averaging 36 hours per week; from November to February: approximately 4 hours per month; weekend and Bank Holiday work required.
* Potential DBS check required; employment offer contingent on clearance.


Qualifications & Experience

* Experience providing excellent customer service within a leisure and tourism environment.
* Strong staff supervisory skills and ability to work independently.
* Excellent organisational skills and confident communication with visitors and colleagues.
* Hands-on approach with a focus on visitor engagement and team leadership.
