Overview
Housing Support Specialist (Outreach and Move On team). Based in East Sussex with travel around East Sussex. Fixed term contract, maternity cover for 12 months. Location: Hailsham. Hours: 37 per week, with two early morning shifts per week (5:00am or 6:00am depending on season) and other days 9:00am – 5:00pm. Salary: £27,942 per year, plus £1,000 essential car user allowance, plus £800 Rough Sleepers Allowance, plus Unsociable Hours shift allowance. Application Deadline: 24 October 2025.
Responsibilities
* Provide early morning street outreach to people sleeping rough in Eastbourne, Wealden and Lewes, alongside move-on / tenancy support as clients progress away from homelessness.
* Deliver flexible, trauma-informed support to help end rough sleeping, identifying and coordinating the services each person needs (e.g., substance dependency, mental and physical health, domestic abuse, current or historical offending).
* Work with a multiagency team to support individuals who have experienced homelessness to make positive, lasting changes in their lives.
Qualifications and requirements
* Available to work unsociable hours (two early morning shifts per week).
* Personalised, empathetic approach to care.
* Enhanced DBS check (paid for by Southdown).
* Full Driving Licence and access to own car or car insured for you.
Desirable experience
* Knowledge of complex and diverse support needs relating to homelessness, mental health and substance misuse.
* Awareness of causes of rough sleeping and barriers to engagement with services.
* Experience in supported housing or homelessness settings, or with individuals with complex mental health needs.
