Health & Safety Manager – Major Construction Project (Bristol) Location: Bristol Rate: Up to £50 per hour Contract Length: Initial 6 months (January start) Working Pattern: Day works (site operating hours 07:00–16:00) An established industrial operator is engaging a freelance Health & Safety Manager to provide Health & Safety services in support of a major construction upgrade at a large terminal facility in Bristol. The project involves the construction and installation of four storage tanks, along with associated pipework and mechanical equipment, forming part of a £3m capital upgrade programme. Works are being delivered by an international (Spanish) subcontractor, making effective on-site communication an important aspect of the assignment. Scope of Services The successful contractor will be responsible for establishing and delivering Health & Safety management services for the duration of the construction works, including: * Developing and implementing project-specific Health & Safety systems and procedures * Providing an on-site Health & Safety presence during critical construction activities * Undertaking site inspections, audits, toolbox talks, and safety briefings * Monitoring site activities and advising on the management of Health & Safety risks * Liaising with project stakeholders and subcontractors to support compliance * Promoting safe working practices and a positive site safety culture The role requires a practical, site-based Health & Safety professional with experience operating independently within complex construction environments. Required Experience & Skills * Demonstrable experience delivering Health & Safety services on construction or heavy construction projects * Background in industrial construction, including tanks, pipework, mechanical or civils works * Spanish-speaking capability preferred, to assist effective communication with subcontract teams * Strong communication and stakeholder-engagement skills * Relevant Health & Safety qualifications (NEBOSH or equivalent) Contract Details * Up to £50 per hour, depending on experience * Initial 6 month engagement with defined project scope * Day works aligned to site operating hours (no routine nights; occasional weekend attendance may be required during key phases) * Opportunity to contribute to a high-value, technically complex construction project
