Job Title: Junior Logistics Coordinator / Planner
Location: Gillingham, Kent
Salary: £30,000 per annum
Duration: Full Time, Permanent
Hours: Shift pattern 4 days on 4 days off (48 hrs over an 8‑day week)
Shift: 7am – 7pm

About you
You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, a driver’s licence, good organisational and interpersonal skills, and be able to work in a pressured environment. You are computer literate in Microsoft Office and have an awareness of bespoke software. Experience within customer service, logistics and planning in a similar environment is preferred, but not essential. You are willing to “get hands on” as and when required, picking, loading and unloading equipment.
About the role
The hire desk operates 24/7, managing planned work and rapid response emergency callouts. You will develop your ability to assist with the management of our hire control desk whilst scheduling deliveries and collections of rental equipment via our fleet of HGV and LGV vehicles.

Key responsibilities
* Control all aspects of the hire department
* Maximise utilisation of the hire plant
* Control the cost of hire equipment
* Analyse profit and loss per job
* Work alongside the sales department in the development of new business
* Deliver and collect all plant equipment while keeping costs down and increasing customer satisfaction
* Ensure that vehicles and drivers are used to their maximum capacity
* Accurately pick orders and load lorries via forklift truck ready for delivery
* Maintain appropriate accurate records and data in accordance with the Data Protection Act
* Assist with planning the delivery of fuel
* Assist and cover colleagues when on holiday or sickness
* Ensure the depot yard and workshop is safe and secure at night and weekends
* Minimise cost for materials
* Plan maintenance for generators as per the MEMS policy
* Maintain and implement the call‑out rota for service engineers and drivers
* Work alongside the transport department regarding all transport requirements
