DAIRY TECHNICIAN
Location: Hillsborough
Hours: 37hrs per week, 5 days per week
Duration: role is up to March 2026
Grade: £13.75 per hour

The Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI) delivers world-class science to support agriculture, the environment, and the wider economy. Sponsored by the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA), AFBI provides evidence-based research and monitoring that informs government policy and promotes sustainability in Northern Ireland and beyond.
Job role:
Assisting a team of technical staff to undertake livestock experiments. The role will require working closely with livestock, and may involve manual handling of livestock, operating agricultural equipment, weighing out experimental diets, collecting experimental samples (forages, feed, milk, urine, faeces etc), processing samples, and recording data. The latter may involve inputting and checking data on computerised systems and production of summary data reports. The role will involve outdoor work in all weather. The ability to work weekends on a rota basis is essential to the role, as is some early morning working and evening working. The role may involve on-farm work.
Essential Criteria:
* 5 GCSEs including Science, Math's & English language (Grades A*-C for subjects specified) or equivalent
* Demonstrable experience of working with dairy cattle
* Demonstrable experience of collecting experimental data
* Demonstrable experience in Microsoft Office packages or equivalent, specifically Excel and Word
* Full driving licence
