JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Teacher - Post-Primary REPORTS TO: Principal
Responsibilities
1. 1. Planning – Planning and preparing courses and lessons; teaching according to pupils’ educational needs; setting and marking work; assessing, recording and reporting on pupil development, progress and attainment.
2. 2. General – Promoting the general progress and well-being of pupils and classes; providing advice and guidance to pupils on education, social matters and future careers; making and maintaining relevant records; communicating with parents; cooperating with external bodies as approved; attending related meetings.
3. 3. Assessment/Reporting – Providing or contributing to oral and written assessments, reports and references for individual pupils and groups.
4. 4. Staff Development/Professional Development – Participating in staff development and performance review; reviewing teaching methods and programmes; pursuing further training and professional development; advising and cooperating with the Principal and other teachers on courses, materials, and pastoral arrangements.
5. 5. Discipline/Health and Safety – Maintaining order and discipline; safeguarding health and safety; participating in meetings related to curriculum and school administration, including pastoral arrangements.
6. 6. Public Examinations – Assisting with examination preparation, assessment, recording, reporting and supervision during examinations.
7. 7. Review and Development of Management Activities/Administration – Assisting in staff appointments and development; coordinating or managing the work of other teachers; contributing to curriculum, organisation and pastoral functions; participating in administrative tasks; attending assemblies; registering attendance and supervising pupils.
8. 8. Hours of Work – Availability for 195 days per year; up to 1,265 hours per year excluding preparation/marking; weekly teaching hours capped by policy; breaks as defined; year defined as 12 months from 31 July; week as 7 days from Sunday.
9. 9. Staff Cover – Supervising and teaching pupils in the absence of their regular teacher under defined conditions; guidelines vary by school size and enrolment.
Qualifications and Experience

Essential Criteria
* Qualifications/Professional Membership – Hold a teaching qualification recognized to teach in grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland; hold a degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification prepared to teach Chemistry as the main subject.
* Experience – Minimum of 5 years’ (within the last 10 years) demonstrable experience of teaching Chemistry to GCSE level; minimum of 3 years’ (within the last 8 years) demonstrable experience of teaching Chemistry to A level; demonstrable experience of using data/self-evaluation to plan and deliver improvement; demonstrable evidence of contributing to a school-based team; demonstrable evidence of using self-evaluation to effect improvement.
* Other – Be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up post.
Desirable Criteria
* Qualifications and Experience – Demonstrable experience of managing people and/or coordinating an area of the curriculum in a school setting; ability and willingness to contribute to the extra-curricular life of the school (please provide details).
