General Yard Assistant – Newark – Newark Motor Auctions
About the role
We are excited to be recruiting for a General Yard Assistant at our Newark Motor Auctions site - one of the largest independent used car auctions in the UK. Our team has been successfully helping customers buy and sell vehicles since our first auction back in 1971. Now in our fifth decade, we have become the area’s go-to auto auction for members of the public and motor trade professionals wanting a quick, simple and effective way to buy or sell a used vehicle.
We are looking to recruit an experienced General Yard assistant, The yard team is a core part of the Auction business, made up of various functions Yard team, Inspections, VCP and Imaging. Team members are responsible for ensuring all processes within their department run efficiently and support the smooth operation of the day-to-day function.

An average day as a General Yard Assistant….
10. Ensuring sales are delivered successfully and operational and customer service excellence are met at all times.
11. Responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the yard operation, through timely vehicle movements and working within Auction processes and procedures, adhering to HSE requirements at all times.
12. To arrange and support the organisation and display of vehicles prior to auction on behalf of the company and vendors
13. To assist in the manoeuvring of vehicles in order to provide a tidy and orderly appearance in the Yard
14. Ensure all vehicles are correctly presented with appropriate paperwork
15. Ensure you conduct yourself in calm, polite and courteous manner whilst dealing with
16. customers and team members
17. Ensure all aspects of Pre Inspection Process are carried out
18. Ensure the quality of images taken are to the highest standard
19. Make sure all lot numbers are displayed on vehicles
20. Communicate with the office if any vehicle has issues etc and may come out of line or to the Back door
21. All deliveries are taken to the correct place with all the documents.
22. All counter entries spec’d
23. Key check before sales
24. Number plates and fuel
25. Not sold list
26. All movements including on hold and returns
27. Any other ad hoc duties as when requested
Details of hours….
28. Your normal hours of work will be 40 hours per week, as follows:
29. Monday Wednesday and Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm
30. Tuesday 9.00am to 8.00pm
31. Thursday 9.00am to 7.00pm
32. 1 hour unpaid break for lunch by arrangement with your line manager.
About you…
33. Must hold a valid UK driving licence
34. The ideal candidate will be reliable and conscientious with administration experience.
35. Have experience of dealing with customers in person and over the phone
36. Strong attention to detail and a team player.
37. Experience of working within rigid regulations and procedure
38. Excellence customer service skills
39. Strong administration skills
40. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written.
41. To have a basic knowledge of HSE legislation
42. The ability to drive a variety of vehicles with all types of ignition procedures and transmission
