Acute Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist
Lead an adult speech and language therapy team at St Helier Hospital, providing specialist assessment, treatment and advice for acquired communication and swallowing disorders, supervising students and mentoring junior staff.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the adult speech and language therapy team and manage own caseload.
* Assess and advise on communication and swallowing problems in an acute hospital setting.
* Provide specialist training, advice and second opinions to SLTs, other professionals and carers.
* Supervise students and mentor junior staff.
* Regularly undertake research and development activities within the speciality.
* Act as departmental resource for assessment tools, collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, and contribute to service development.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
* Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree qualification or equivalent.
* Health Professions Council licence to practice.
* Registered Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCslt) – desirable.
Desirable Qualifications
* Experience in fibreoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES).
Essential Experience
* Significant experience of adult acquired neurological and medical disorders in acute and health & ageing settings, with own swallowing and communication caseload.
* Experience in videofluoroscopy, including interpretation, analysis and clear reporting.
* Previous professional clinical supervision experience.
* Ability to work at a senior level in partnership with other professionals and agencies.
Desirable Experience
* Experience in FEES.
