Offer description

Build Technician – Battery Module and Pack IONETIC – who are we? IONETIC is a battery technology start-up based in Brackley, just a few miles from Silverstone—the heart of British motorsport. We specialise in battery pack solutions for low-volume electrified applications, including buses, sports cars, and other vehicles. Our mission is to make electrification both possible and compelling for every vehicle OEM, by providing tailored, cost-effective battery packs with unmatched speed and flexibility. By integrating proprietary software, mechanical design, and manufacturing technologies, into a single technology stack we call Arc, we deliver custom battery systems that meet a wide range of energy, power, and lifecycle requirements. Our chemistry-agnostic, scalable designs are built to accelerate the journey to net zero for our customers. Working at IONETIC IONETIC offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a fast-moving, innovative start-up that is shaping the future of electric mobility. With a strong order pipeline and growing demand for our technology, we’re expanding our team to broaden our capabilities and scale our operations. As an early-stage employee, you will play a key role in developing the foundational technologies and capabilities that will power the next generation of electric vehicles. Every employee at IONETIC takes on meaningful responsibility and is encouraged to contribute ideas, take initiative, and grow both professionally and personally in a supportive, collaborative environment. Opportunity We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Build Technician, for battery modules and packs, to join our growing manufacturing team. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for assembling prototype and pre-production battery packs, ensuring they meet strict performance, quality, and safety standards. You will collaborate closely with engineers, technicians, and manufacturing specialists to bring advanced battery systems to life, playing a key role in the transition from design to physical product. This is a dynamic position within a fast-paced start-up environment, offering the opportunity to work on cutting-edge electrification technologies while developing your skills across both mechanical and electrical assembly. Key Responsibilities Assemble prototype and pre-production battery modules and packs by following detailed work instructions, diagrams, and safety protocols. This includes kitting of parts, sub-assembly, and visual/mechanical inspection. Operate a range of manufacturing tools and equipment such as collaborative robots (cobots), laser welders, soldering irons, and torque wrenches to complete high-quality assembly of battery packs. Support virtual build series by reviewing parts and processes for assembly feasibility and proactively identify opportunities for improvement. Collaborate with the Manufacturing Engineering team to develop work instructions, inspection procedures, and assembly documentation. Conduct inspections and functional testing on assembled packs to ensure compliance with quality and technical specifications. Support, troubleshoot, and resolve assembly issues, making necessary adjustments or repairs to maintain build quality. Maintain accurate records of builds, including part traceability and inspection results. Validate tooling and jigs to ensure they are fit for purpose and meet operational requirements. Identify and report ergonomic issues, health and safety risks (including COSHH-related concerns), and propose or implement solutions where appropriate. Participate in DFA (Design for Assembly) reviews and provide input into PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) activities. Support structured problem-solving activities across the assembly process to improve quality and efficiency. Generate and update relevant build, inspection, and product reports in line with internal processes. Adhere strictly to company safety protocols, policies, and industry regulations related to battery handling, assembly, and high-voltage operations. Skills and Experience A good level of GCSEs, A-Levels, or BTEC—ideally in STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Maths). 2 years of experience in battery module/pack assembly, electronics, or other complex manufacturing environments is desirable. Understanding of high-voltage systems, electronics, and wiring practices is beneficial. Competence in using standard assembly tools and equipment, including soldering irons, torque tools, and automated systems. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and assembly instructions. Comfortable working with small components and performing precise, repetitive tasks. Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to high-quality workmanship. Self-motivated, with the drive to meet goals and overcome technical challenges. Experience with lean manufacturing principles and structured problem-solving techniques. Strong interpersonal and organisational skills, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Flexible and adaptable to changes in working hours or shifts at short notice. Good computer literacy and effective presentation/reporting skills. Product knowledge of EV battery systems is an advantage. Valid UK driving licence or suitable travel arrangements for business needs. Willingness to travel domestically and internationally if required by the role.
