Overview
The Albert Gubay Business School has recently received a significant financial donation towards the development of its new physical estates. This provides an opportunity to reinvigorate the School in a number of important ways, and the new AGBS building will be a catalyst to transform the ways in which the School engages with external stakeholders. The Business Development Manager role provides an opportunity to grow the school’s footprint in external engagement to the benefit of our University, School, and Students.
Applicants should have a strong track record of building and growing new business opportunities, ideally within a Higher Education (HE) context. You will maintain and build new external business networks with a focus on growing the influence and contributions of AGBS throughout the region, and beyond.
Purpose of the Job
1. To deliver on the School and University visions relating to regional impact, community and business engagement, and student employability.
2. To develop and lead the AGBS Business Clinic initiative.
3. To grow sustainable external networks between the school, external businesses, the public sector and the wider community.
4. To support the expansion of academic programmes in executive education and to contribute to employability-focused aspects of the curriculum at all study levels.
5. To identify, develop, and implement new commercial opportunities and income-generating activities that enhance the School’s financial sustainability and external profile.
6. To promote the School’s expertise and capabilities to external audiences, representing the School at regional and national events to strengthen its reputation and build strategic alliances.
7. To perform administrative tasks effectively as designated by the Head of School.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
8. Working with the Head of School, Academic and Professional Services staff to develop and implement the Business School’s vision and strategy.
9. Supporting existing programmes and revenue generation, while having a strong focus on new business opportunities and growth of the School’s external activities.
10. Building relationships with external parties who may be able to contribute to our programmes either through teaching, the provision of scholarships or networking and employability opportunities for students.
11. Working with the Alumni and Careers teams to develop lasting and valuable relationships with alumni.
12. Liaising with professional services staff from the School, College and University to support and coordinate operational delivery.
13. Identifying, negotiating, and developing commercial and partnership opportunities that generate new income streams and enhance the School’s external reputation.
14. Leading or supporting bids and proposals for external funding, sponsorship, consultancy, and collaborative projects with business and community partners. Representing the School on College and University Committees as appropriate.

15. The post holder will be expected to participate in performance review and developmental activities.

19. Bachelor degree or equivalent in any Business-related discipline.
Experience/Knowledge

20. Experience in developing new business opportunities and income generation.
21. Experience in growing business relationships to support diversification of income streams.

23. Evidence of external networking and profile-raising.
24. Strong analytical skills.

39. The ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh is desirable for this role. If applicants are not able to speak / write in Welsh at present, there are many opportunities to learn if the successful candidate wishes to do so.
