An exciting opportunity has arisen for Medical Examiner Officer to join the Trust as part of the national implementation of the Medical Examiner system in England and Wales. The aim of this service is to be able to scrutinise deaths within acute hospitals and also the circumstances of all community deaths in the corresponding areas. You will be a point of contact and source of advice for relatives of deceased patients, healthcare professionals and coroner and registration services. You will be part of the Medical Examiner's office ensuring internal and external qualitative and quantitative key performance indicators are managed and achieved and work closely with the bereavement team, mortality team, Coroner's Office and registrar services to provide the best experience for bereaved families. You will also act as an expert within the Trust for mortality processes and systems and ensure all staff are appropriately supported to fulfil their responsibilities relating to the Medical Examiner's Office. To act as an intermediary between the bereaved and clinicians which will often be very complex and sensitive to establish and resolve any concerns relating to a patient’s death. Work with medical examiners to aid them in their responsibility for overseeing the death certification process for all deceased patients in the organisation.To establish the circumstances of individual patient deaths by performing a preliminary review of medical records to identify clinical and circumstantial information, cases of which will often have complex and complicated circumstances and require the need to source additional details, for scrutiny by the medical examiner. To work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders for the purposes of ensuring statutory requirements are maintained, engagement in changes in the ME and LFD processes and principles are implemented and accessing information required to contribute to national and internal reporting requirements, Coroner, Legal department, PALs, Registrar, etc are achieved.
