Job Description
The Registered Nurse supports the efficient running of the Endoscopy Department to enable patients to receive care closer to home from visiting Endoscopists, including Nurse Endoscopists. Staff promote the health and well-being of service users, signpost services and providers for health and social care.
Responsibilities
* Deliver safe, patient-centred care to service users, families and carers.
* Ensure clinical care requirements of patients are communicated effectively.
* Supervise, develop and mentor newly qualified staff, non-qualified staff, students and volunteers.
* Lead the department in the absence of a Senior Sister on duty; maintain safe staffing levels and inform senior staff of problems with proposed solutions.
* Participate in Endoscopy lists in competent roles as required.
* Undertake admissions including nurse consent and cannulation when competent.
* Administer medications as prescribed by consultants/nurse endoscopists (competent).
* Maintain accurate patient records in line with the Trust's Record Keeping Policy.
* Complete Link Worker training and act as a Link Worker for a specific role (e.g., Basic Life Support, Infection Control, Fire) and support HCAs training.
* Undertake clinical audits to improve patient safety and care.
* Undertake patient satisfaction surveys.
* Registered Nurses may assist endoscopists during procedures, including taking biopsies and removing simple polyps when deemed competent.

The Trust provides a multi-professional preceptorship programme aligned to the National Preceptorship Framework for Nursing and offers related educational opportunities.
