The post holder will be responsible for taking a leading role in carrying out Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP) assessments with tribunal cases. This is an excellent opportunity to help shape and develop our statutory service provision working alongside our School Aged Pathway lead and MDT colleagues. They will work closely with the physiotherapy and speech and language therapy team leads within the tribunal team.

Main duties of the job

Conduct occupational therapy assessments and write reports for tribunals needs assessments for children and young people aged 0-19 years.

1. Produce high quality professional advice and reports to inform EHCP decisions
2. Build effective working relationships with children, families, schools and other agencies

·Monitor progress, and maintain timely and comprehensive clinical records.

·Contribute to multi-disciplinary team meetings and collaborate on joint goal-setting for Education Health and Care Plans. Co-produce EHCP assessment with various stakeholders (parents/ agencies/ schools)

·Manage tribunals and mediations by reviewing evidence, preparing reports, and attending hearings/meetings to represent and advise on occupational therapy recommendations under the guidance of the Operational Lead

·Maintain knowledge of best practices in paediatric OT through ongoing professional development.

·To liaise and use specialist clinical skills with a wide range of health, education professionals, Buckinghamshire County Integrated SEND team and specialist tertiary centres.

·Work autonomously to provide highly specialist occupational therapy assessments, and expertise for children and young people aged 0-19 years.

·Liaise closely with multidisciplinary colleagues, parents, and education providers for children on the tribunal caseload.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential criteria

15. Registered member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT)
16. Recognised Occupational Therapy degree qualification or equivalent
17. Health Professions Council Licence to Practice (HCPC) Registration
18. Evidence of continuing professional development and personal development in the area of working with children
19. Comprehensive post registration therapy experience working with CYP of school age with a complex range of needs

Experience

Essential criteria

20. Clinical experience working within children aged 0-19 years.
21. Extensive experience of working which children and their families as part of MDT team.
22. Experience of delivering intervention/advice on a remote platform and in-person.
23. Evidence of supervision of others in person and via remote platforms
24. Evidence of the ability to carry out highly skilled assessments and management of children and young people of school age.
25. Extensive experience of working with children and their families, as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
26. Experience of working with a variety of agencies and providers
27. Experience of delivering effective training to other qualified professionals and the wider workforce
28. Experience of working as an autonomous practitioner
29. Experience of contributing to service development

Desirable criteria

30. Experience and some knowledge of statutory processes
31. Experience in supporting resolution processes e.g. formal and informal complaints
32. Leadership experience
33. Experience in supporting resolution processes e.g. Tribunals, mediations formal and informal complaints.

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

Essential criteria

34. Demonstrates knowledge of specialist OT assessment tools relevant to the client group
35. Evidence of specialist knowledge/skills resulting from clinical experience and CPD
36. Able to manage emotional consequences and sensitivity in working with patients with a range of OT needs
37. Highly developed communication skills, written and verbal, to ensure effective liaison with multi-disciplinary team, children, young people and their families
38. Able to demonstrate empathy, motivate and persuade children with impaired cognitive or physical disabilities
39. Ability to write concise reports / referrals to ensure interpretation by other members of the multi-disciplinary team or Local Authority so that the child or young person can access the appropriate care and support
40. Able to listen to views and issues raised by families and work collaboratively to resolve these where possible

Desirable criteria

41. Specialist knowledge of management of occupational performance and participation challenges for children and young people
42. Demonstrate understanding of statutory/legal requirements for working with children and families and application in practice
43. The ability to prioritise & organise own work and monitor delegated work in a skill mix team
44. Ability to respond flexibly and professionally to unforeseen clinical and non-clinical situations

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES

45. Valid full driving licence and access to vehicle and ability to wear PPE
