Role Overview:
An experienced Electrically Biased Contracts Manager is required to manage the delivery of electrical and M&E projects across a portfolio of HM Prison Service sites. The ideal candidate will possess strong electrical expertise, proven contract management experience, and a background in delivering works within high-security environments.
This role includes end-to-end project responsibility, from mobilisation through to handover, ensuring compliance, safety, and efficiency across all works.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Management: Oversee electrical and associated M&E works across prison sites, ensuring safe, timely, and within-budget delivery.
Client Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for stakeholders including prison estates teams and government representatives.
Compliance: Ensure all works are delivered in line with BS7671 regulations, CDM requirements, and site-specific security protocols.
Team Leadership: Manage in-house engineers and subcontractors, ensuring high standards of performance and adherence to safety procedures.
Financial Control: Contribute to budgeting, valuations, cost control, and variation handling alongside the commercial team.
Planning: Develop and monitor programmes of work, adjusting resources and timelines as needed to meet project milestones.
Technical Oversight: Review specifications, technical drawings, and installation standards; conduct quality audits and inspections.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical Installation
18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671)
SMSTS or SSSTS (essential)
ECS / JIB Gold Card (preferred)
Minimum 5 years of experience managing electrical projects
Previous work within secure environments (prisons, defence, government facilities) highly desirable
Sound knowledge of CDM, RAMS, and health & safety regulations
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel
Desirable:
Familiarity with Ministry of Justice (MoJ) standards and operational protocols
Experience with prison infrastructure (e.g., power, lighting, CCTV, access control)
Estimating or design experience in electrical projects
First Aid at Work certification
Existing or eligible for Enhanced DBS or CTC clearance
