A leading contractor within the UK water sector is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its established South West team on a permanent basis. With a strong pipeline of secured AMP work and major infrastructure schemes, this organisation continues to play a key role in delivering critical water and wastewater projects across the region.

The Role
The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will take ownership of mechanical design packages across a range of water and wastewater projects, from initial concept through to detailed design and commissioning support. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will ensure solutions are technically sound, efficient, and practical for delivery on site.
The role is based in Bristol, with flexible hybrid working available.
Key Responsibilities
* Leading mechanical design activities on water and infrastructure projects
* Preparing and reviewing design calculations, specifications, schedules, and technical documentation
* Coordinating with civil, electrical, and process engineering teams
* Supporting construction and delivery teams to ensure buildable, cost-effective solutions
* Liaising with clients, supply chain partners, and internal stakeholders
* Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers
* Ensuring compliance with industry standards, client specifications, and health & safety requirements
Candidate Requirements
* Demonstrable experience in mechanical design within the water sector or wider infrastructure environment
* Strong understanding of pumping systems, pipework, treatment processes, or associated mechanical plant
* Experience working within a contractor or consultancy setting
* Ability to manage and deliver design packages independently
* Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
* Chartered status (or working towards) desirable
