As a Fleet Engineer you will support the safety, reliability, and technical performance of the ScotRail fleet. You will investigate technical issues, review engineering information from suppliers, and work with depot teams to develop and deliver practical engineering solutions. The role requires clear technical judgement and the ability to challenge and influence engineering decisions where necessary.
What you bring...
* Flexibility, committed, reliable and able to work individually and as part of a team under demanding timescales.
* Communicate clearly, challenge technical positions when required, and work constructively with depot teams and external suppliers to reach workable outcomes.
* Detail‑focused, organised, and able to take ownership of engineering issues through to resolution.
* Excellent relationship building and networking skills, along with the flexibility to attend meetings at various locations throughout the UK.
* Already hold, (or qualified by experience) a recognised technical qualification in Engineering e.g. HNC/HND/BEng/MEng.
* Desirable that the engineer shall be working towards attaining (or hold) Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status.
* Exceptional written technical capability, including the production of reports, procedures, and maintenance documentation.
* Ability to critically assess third‑party technical submissions, challenge assumptions where necessary, and provide clear, evidence‑based feedback to ensure appropriate engineering outcomes.
* Effective engagement with internal and external stakeholders, and the ability to manage expectations through clear communication, is essential.

Hours of work: Average 35‑hour week. This post works normal office hours Monday to Friday with the requirement to be flexible. This post is Depot Based.
