About the Role
As the Caretaker, you will be responsible for the general maintenance, security, and smooth operation of the school site. This is a hands-on, varied role that requires a proactive approach, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to respond quickly to issues as they arise.
Key responsibilities include:
* Ensuring the school premises are safe, clean, and well-maintained
* Carrying out minor repairs, maintenance, and preventative checks
* Managing security of the school site, including locking/unlocking buildings and monitoring access
* Assisting with setting up rooms and facilities for school events, meetings, and extra-curricular activities
* Liaising with external contractors and suppliers for maintenance, repairs, and safety inspections
* Monitoring health and safety compliance, reporting risks, and maintaining records
* Supporting the school during events, trips, and emergency situations
* Ensuring outdoor areas, grounds, and communal spaces are tidy and safe
Experience and Skills
The successful candidate will:
* Have previous experience in caretaking, maintenance, or facilities management
* Be practical, proactive, and able to work independently
* Possess excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
* Demonstrate an understanding of health and safety procedures
* Be able to work effectively as part of a team and communicate clearly with staff and visitors
* Be flexible and able to respond quickly to site issues
Experience in a school environment is desirable but not essential; full training will be provided where necessary.
