The Role

1. Collects and prepares materials and clinical specimens for analysis and safe disposal of clinical waste.
2. Registers patient related information onto Laboratory Information System or other manual systems.
3. Deals with reception and telephone queries from staff from other departments and external agencies.
4. Provides assistance to the Biomedical Scientist for provision of a laboratory service.
5. Performs specific laboratory tests with senior staff available for reference.
6. Pathology based posts will receive, store and release deceased patients from the mortuary
7. Assists in the training of new or less experienced staff.

What we'll need you to bring

8. Standard Grade English and a Science Subject essential.
9. A good understanding of Biomedical Science.
10. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology is preferred but training will be provided.
11. Extended supervised training for a minimum of one year due to the wide range of duties encompassed within the job equivalent to National Vocational Qualification Level 3.
12. High awareness of Infection Control Policies and Procedures.
13. Good keyboard skills.
14. Manual dexterity essential.
15. Ongoing personal development in subject through attendance at appropriate meetings and courses.

It would be great if you also have

16. HNC in applied sciences
17. Laboratory experience.
18. Previous NHS laboratory experience would be beneficial
19. Good communication skills particularly oral, written and presentation.
20. Good organisational skills
21. Ability to work under pressure.

Contract type

Fixed Term (12 Months)

Part Time

15.79 Hours

Please note this is a part time post and the salary for this position will be pro-rata.

Please note this is a 12 Months fixed term post. Where a post only has temporary funding and an existing member of NHS Lanarkshire staff wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee MUST already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post.

Location and Working Pattern

This role will be based in Biochemistry within NHS Lanarkshire.

The working pattern for this role is Various shifts including back shifts and weekends. 5 over 7
