When you join us as an apprentice, you will complete an apprenticeship course relevant to the role, to suit your current education level. At the end of the programme, you will gain a qualification in this field as well as learning the practical skills and hands-on experience doing the job. We offer apprenticeships from a level 3 to a degree level apprenticeship fully funded by Galliford Try, tailored to your current education level and course entry requirements. As an apprentice operative you will carry out tasks set by site supervisors and gangers to a high and safe standard. Construction operatives usually work 39 hours a week, Monday to Friday. Start and finish times vary in order to make the most of daylight hours, complete jobs to deadlines and avoid disruption to the public. Overtime work at weekends or in the evening may sometimes be required. Construction operatives mainly work outside so conditions can be hot, cold, wet, and dirty. The work can be physical and sometimes involves loading, unloading and storing materials. On construction sites, operatives wear protective clothing such as safety helmets, steel toecap boots, ear defenders, goggles and high-visibility jackets. The work can involve travelling as operatives move from one project to the next. They may need to work away from home. A driving license would be very useful. You will: Help skilled tradespeople/ Operatives and management with every aspect of the construction process Be involved in projects from start to finish Set up and dismantle access equipment, including ladders and some scaffolding Transporting, stacking and removing tools, equipment and materials. Work safely alongside construction plant and equipment, such as excavators, dumpers etc Follow all health and safety procedures Be involved in logistics, traffic management and erecting safe working zones Operate hand machinery such as drills, as required Working indoors and outdoors in all weathers. This role is available for a September 2025 start, with the possibility of an earlier start date to suit yourself and the business. As part of the apprenticeship programme you will be expected to work in and around the location advertised, with the possibility for expanding travel to other projects and locations in the future.
