Amey is a leading provider of full life-cycle engineering, operations, and decarbonisation solutions for transport infrastructure and complex facilities.
Working for us, you’ll deliver sustainable infrastructure solutions that enhance life and protect our shared future.
Our people are driven by strong values based on safety, insight, and collaboration.
The Opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Ecologist to join our Energy Transition & Sustainability (ET&S) team. With shared office space in Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Perth, we welcome applications from Ecologists across Scotland.
This is an exciting opportunity to provide senior support for ecology-related activities on various road contracts in Scotland, including the Southwest Network Management Contract for Transport Scotland, active travel schemes (e.g., AMIDS Renfrewshire), and the North Angus Growth Opportunity. As the Senior Ecologist in Scotland, you will support the development and growth of the team, potentially leading ecology-specific business development opportunities.
The role
Our Ecologists play an important role within the ET&S team and alongside our clients. As an Ecologist, you will support your Senior Ecologist on various ecological schemes, lead projects, and mentor junior Ecologists.
The role also includes ecological support for regional and national projects across sectors like highways, rail, local authorities, central government, aviation, and waste.
Responsibilities include:
* Producing technically sound deliverables for ecological commissions as part of a team
* Preparing and checking documentation to meet quality, cost, and programme criteria
* Liaising with clients and suppliers, attending progress meetings, and responding to queries
* Managing a small, locally based technical team and overseeing their workload
* Contributing to bid preparation and business development
* Promoting effective health and safety practices within the team
What you will bring to us:
* Experience and expertise in ecology, gained in an Ecologist role or similar
* Specialist knowledge in protected species surveys, with at least one European protected species survey license; a Bat license is highly advantageous
* Experience with EPS mitigation licenses and holding or working towards protected species licenses (notably bats & dormice)
* Experience in invasive species survey and management
* Knowledge of ecological processes and survey methodologies
* Ability to produce technically sound ecological solutions complying with standards and legislation
* Understanding of ecological management principles
* Experience with health, safety, and welfare project tasks, including CDM regulations
* Good risk assessment skills and hazard/risk management experience
* A degree in Ecology, Zoology, Botany, Biology, Environmental Science, or equivalent
* Full membership of CIEEM or equivalent
