Hr & payroll coordinator

Leeds
Walker Morris LLP
Coordinator
Posted: 8 October
Offer description

We’re looking for a detail-driven HR & Payroll Coordinator to join our collaborative People & Culture team at a leading law firm based in the heart of Leeds. In this hybrid role, you’ll spend around 20–40% of your time managing the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across the board. The rest of your time will be spent supporting a wide range of HR activities – from onboarding and learning & development to diversity and inclusion initiatives.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who thrives on getting the numbers right but is also curious about the bigger people picture. You’ll be part of a supportive team that values continuous improvement, collaboration, and professional growth. If you’re looking to build on your payroll expertise while developing broader HR skills in a dynamic legal environment, we’d love to hear from you.

Please note, we are open to considering this role on a part-time basis with a minimum of 26 hours per week, or on a full-time basis. Our office is based in Leeds City Centre, and we operate a hybrid working model with a minimum of 40% of your time in the office per week.

As the HR & Payroll Coordinator, you will:

Payroll (primary focus – approx. 20-40%):

1. Support the end-to-end monthly payroll process with a focus on accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.
2. Process new joiners, leavers, variable pay, and holiday payments.
3. Manage data imports and submissions to HMRC, including RTI, ensuring full compliance.
4. Administer pension auto-enrolment and reconcile payroll variations.
5. Respond to payroll-related queries and resolve discrepancies promptly.
6. Prepare month-end payroll reports and end-of-year documentation.
7. Maintain and update payroll process notes to reflect improvements and changes.

People & culture generalist support:

8. Assist with recruitment coordination, onboarding, and offboarding.
9. Support learning & development activities and training logistics.
10. Contribute to diversity & inclusion initiatives and reporting.
11. Maintain accurate employee records and support HR systems administration.
12. Provide first-line support for employee queries and escalate where necessary.

We are looking for:

13. Demonstrable experience in payroll administration, ideally within a broader HR role.
14. Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and HMRC processes.
15. High attention to detail and ability to manage sensitive data with discretion.
16. A process-driven mindset with a commitment to consistency, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
17. A willingness to learn and step up to cover senior team members when needed.
18. Excellent communication and organisational skills.
19. A collaborative team player with a proactive and solution-focused approach.
20. Experience with HRIS and payroll systems is highly desirable.

Some of our benefits include:

21. Salary reflective of your experience.
22. Earn up to 10% of your salary with our annual bonus scheme.
23. Minimum of 25 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays per year increasing to 31 days with length of service, with the opportunity to buy/sell up to 5 days holiday per year.
24. Auto enrolled into the workplace pension scheme, and we’ll contribute a minimum of 6% of your salary.
25. 4x your annual salary in the event of a death in service.
26. Hybrid and flexible working for most roles with a minimum of 40% of your time spent in the office.
