The Opportunity
- Take a senior technical role shaping the delivery of DNO substation projects across the UK
- Lead the electrical design of HV infrastructure from feasibility through to detailed design
- Work within a growing, collaborative engineering environment where your expertise directly influences project outcomes
- Partner closely with a Design Manager and multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, compliant and future‑ready power systems
What You’ll Do
- Provide design leadership across 11kV–132kV substation projects, producing and reviewing HV electrical designs
- Manage and coordinate the output of external sub‑consultants to ensure quality and consistency
- Collaborate directly with DNO design authorities to secure approvals and maintain compliance
- Integrate electrical design with cable system design and civil engineering inputs for seamless project delivery
- Apply strong technical knowledge of protection, earthing, system studies and HV plant
- Champion safety‑by‑design and ensure adherence to statutory regulations and internal procedures
What You’ll Bring
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related discipline
- Chartered Engineer status or active progression toward chartership
- Proven experience in HV electrical design within a DNO or ICP environment
- Strong understanding of HV plant, protection systems and relevant industry standards
- Solid grasp of electrical safety regulations for high‑voltage environments
- Excellent communication skills with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
- Ability to lead by example, solve problems proactively and deliver under pressure
Desirable
- Experience delivering substation new builds, refurbishments or reinforcement schemes
- Familiarity with GIS/AIS switchgear, transformers, underground cables and OHL terminations
- Previous responsibility for managing design packages or multidisciplinary coordination
