Welfare Officer (part-time 20 hours)
1-year fixed term, starting 1st October 2024
Salary: £30,220 (PS31) pro rata per annum, £15,110 per annum
Peterhouse is the oldest College in Cambridge (founded in 1284) and among the smallest (currently 291 undergraduates, 176 postgraduates, 43 Fellows). The College provides accommodation for almost all its Junior Members either on or near the main College site, fostering a close-knit community with regular interactions among members. It is a vibrant community with active clubs, societies, and a tradition of table fellowship. The College welcomes men and women of all faiths and nationalities.
Role Overview:
The Welfare Officer is expected to serve in a pastoral capacity for all College members. The role involves engaging with the College community at all levels, supporting College events (concerts, plays, speaker meetings), and fostering informal interactions with students, staff, and Fellows.
The Welfare Officer reports to the Senior Tutor and oversees non-medical welfare activities. They advise students on welfare resources available within the College and University, and direct them to appropriate services such as the College Nurse and Mental Health Adviser.
The post requires confidentiality, emotional intelligence, empathy, and previous pastoral experience. The candidate should be able to handle complex pastoral situations and relate well to a diverse community within a collegiate university setting.
