Role Purpose
As a Legal Assistant you will be supporting a Partner working within the Charities and NFP team which is part of the Private Client Department. Your quick thinking, attention to detail and accuracy are vital attributes. The Charities and NFP team is a growing team, you will need to have a broad understanding of legal matters, transactions, client requests and the demands of your team often connected to sensitive or complex issues.
Key Responsibilities
* Day to day administration of grant making charities, to include preparation of all meeting papers, attendance at meetings as minute taker, all post meeting administration, liaising with beneficiaries and Trustees
* Drafting of governing documents for new charities and not for profit entities
* Drafting of Charity Commission applications – to include registration application forms, applications for Schemes, Orders and other consents
* Drafting of policies and other governance documents for charities and not profit entities
* Maintenance of Charity Commission, Companies House and HMRC registers, to include dealing with the appointment and retirement of Trustees and drafting appropriate documentation
* Advisory work (for existing and new clients) and research
* Business development: including support on the preparation of tenders, press / newsletters / writing for Sector press / annual Charity Conference / other professional events
* Maintenance and development of team precedents
* Internal compliance

* Ability to accurately record, organise, and maintain client and matter information using appropriate systems, ensuring information is accessible, secure, and supports the team efficiency (A/I)
* Communicates with clarity, sharing ideas appropriately, listening actively, and contributing to discussions that support effective decision-making and continuous improvement. (A/I/T)
* Experience in taking ownership of tasks with responsible time management, attention to detail and professional responsibility. (A/I/T)
* Brings a positive attitude and proactive approach to your role, helping to foster a respectful and inclusive workplace. (A/I)
Desirable Criteria
* Able to demonstrate awareness of our purpose and how the role contributes to wider goals. (I)
* May have experience working in a professional or client facing environment. (A)
Technical Knowledge
* Proficient in using Microsoft 365 applications to organise tasks, manage time effectively and support collaborative working (essential). (A/I)
