ELSA Teaching Assistant (Part-Time or Full-Time – Summer Term)

A friendly and inclusive primary school in Haringey is seeking a skilled and experienced ELSA-trained Teaching Assistant to join the team for the summer term. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact supporting pupils’ emotional wellbeing and development within a nurturing school environment.
The role is flexible and can be offered on a part-time basis (3 days per week) with the possibility of continuing into the autumn term, or as a full-time position (5 days per week) for the duration of the summer term.
About the role - ELSA Teaching Assistant
You will play a key role in supporting pupils’ social and emotional development, working closely with the SENCo and class teachers to deliver targeted interventions. The role will involve both 1:1 support and small group work, primarily with a group of Year 4 pupils, alongside providing additional support to other children where needed.
This is a hands-on and impactful position, ideal for someone who is confident in building positive relationships and creating a safe, supportive space for children to express themselves and develop key emotional skills.
Key responsibilities - ELSA Teaching Assistant
1. Deliver high-quality ELSA interventions to individuals and small groups
2. Provide 1:1 support tailored to pupils’ specific emotional and social needs
3. Plan and adapt sessions in line with pupils’ progress and wellbeing targets
4. Work collaboratively with teaching staff and the SENCo
5. Monitor and record progress, providing feedback where appropriate
6. Support pupils across the school as needs arise

7. A qualified and experienced ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant)
8. Proven experience delivering effective ELSA interventions in a primary setting
9. Strong understanding of children’s social, emotional, and mental health needs

11. Excellent communication and teamwork skills
12. The ability to build trust and positive relationships with pupils and staff
