Offer description

Science Teacher (Secondary, QTS) - Harrow, London Do you have a passion for teaching science and a determination to support students who face significant barriers to learning? We are looking to appoint a committed and resilient Science Teacher (QTS required) to join our forward‑thinking team at a pupil referral unit in Harrow. The successful Science Teacher will work with secondary‑age students whose educational journey has been disrupted, including those with SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health) needs, challenging behaviour, and/or SEN including ASD. About the Role As the Science Teacher, you will: Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated Science lessons (KS3 and KS4) in a specialist setting where students may have previously struggled in mainstream classrooms. Monitor and assess student progress, adapting learning strategies to meet individual needs and behaviours. Support students with SEMH, challenging behaviour and/or SEN (including ASD) by implementing appropriate classroom management strategies and working collaboratively with support staff. Work closely with the leadership team, pastoral/behaviour teams and external specialists to create a safe, inclusive and structured learning environment where students feel valued and make progress. Contribute to the development of the science curriculum tailored for a pupil referral unit environment and participate in whole‑school professional development. Foster strong relationships with students, parents/carers and multi‑agency colleagues to support reintegration, engagement and academic achievement. What We're Looking For We seek a Science Teacher who: Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Has experience teaching secondary science (or an equivalent background) and is confident delivering the national curriculum at KS3/KS4. Demonstrates experience of - or a strong willingness to learn - working with students with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour or SEN (for example ASD). Has excellent classroom management, an ability to build rapport quickly, and the resilience to work effectively in a specialist setting. Shows creativity, flexibility and drive to motivate disengaged learners and help them regain confidence and enthusiasm for science. Works effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, communicates clearly, and is committed to continuous professional development. Why Join Us? Be part of a dedicated team within a pupil referral unit under the local authority's EOTAS (Education Other Than at School) service. Make a real difference in the lives of students whose learning has been disrupted - your role as Science Teacher will have a strong impact on engagement, attainment and future pathways. Work within a supportive environment that values innovation, collaboration and the professional growth of its staff. Opportunity to develop bespoke teaching approaches tailored to a specialist context and to broaden your experience as a Science Teacher beyond mainstream settings. How to Apply If you are a driven Science Teacher with QTS, passionate about working with challenging but rewarding cohorts of secondary students - and ready to thrive in a high‑impact specialist environment - we would love to hear from you. As a specialist SEND recruiter, child safety and welfare is our number one priority. That is why we conduct thorough checks on all our candidates, and ensure that they abide by our Candidate Code of Conduct. All Candidates will be required to provide an Enhanced DBS that is actively registered on the Update Service, or apply for one as part of the onboarding process.
