Role Summary

Buying Administrator
The British Museum Company
Full-time
Permanent
£25,000-£26,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

About the role:

The British Museum Company is responsible for translating the British Museum’s collections into accessible products for the public. This includes developing, producing and retailing merchandise, operating shops, publishing and e-commerce.

The successful Buying Administrator will assist the buying team in implementing the retail buying strategy by managing the efficient development, buying and supply of retail product to maximize sales and customer satisfaction.

Key areas of responsibility (including but not limited to):

1. Collate and maintain accurate and up to date data on supplier information and product codes, descriptions, prices, order quantities and delivery notes, communicating any changes to Finance and Retail team.
2. Assist the Buyers in finding and developing new museum related and commercial products for core collections and exhibition ranges.
3. Keep constant communication with suppliers, the shops, Trade, Web and Goods In departments to provide and to get all the information needed for the smooth running of the buying and stock management process.
4. Create and manage photo range plans gathering required information from Buyers and issue these to other departments within the company.
5. Use Business Central to perform various functions such as place orders, check sales and stock levels, find vendor information and resolve invoice queries.
6. Create and issue critical paths and work with the Buyers to ensure the critical path is met for exhibitions and new range development.

Person Specification:

7. Previous retail experience in either Head Office or retail shop required.
8. Can demonstrate excellent IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite.
9. Must have strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise and multi-task.
10. Can demonstrate absolute discretion when dealing with confidential information.
11. Excellent communication skills.
12. Strong numeracy skills to understand trading data. manage budgets, analyse stock data, and process financial information accurately.
13. Demonstrate strong attention to detail and troubleshoot issues, when they arise.
