Joining Arup

Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach have set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

Our Economics and Casemaking practice sits within the Cities, Planning and Design (CPD) team and is at the forefront of thinking about the future of places. We work with clients to understand the economic, social and spatial value of places, helping them articulate compelling stories, build robust cases for investment, and deliver inclusive and sustainable growth.

Watch this short clip to discover how Arup are shaping a better world and how you could be a part of it!

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Consultant to join our Economics & Casemaking team in Leeds, part of a national practice working at the forefront of shaping cities and places.

You’ll support a wide range of projects across regeneration, economic development, infrastructure and growth, helping clients build compelling cases for investment, develop strategies for inclusive and sustainable growth, and deliver complex programmes. This includes contributing to business cases, strategy and vision documents, socio‑economic analysis, impact assessments and social value work.

Working as part of collaborative, multidisciplinary project teams, you’ll engage with public sector clients, developers and other stakeholders, providing clear, evidence‑based advice in dynamic and often long‑term environments. You’ll work closely with colleagues across Arup, including planners, designers, transport and sustainability specialists.

You don’t need experience in every area. We’re an inclusive team and welcome applicants with a strong interest in cities, regions and the built environment, who are keen to learn, grow and make a positive impact from day one.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.
You will have the opportunity to do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?

We’re looking for someone who is curious, motivated and enjoys working collaboratively. You’ll bring:

1. A degree (or working towards one) in economics, geography, regeneration, real estate, public or social policy, business, town planning or a related built‑environment discipline
2. Strong written communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to produce clear, engaging reports and presentations
3. Confidence communicating verbally, including contributing to meetings, workshops and presentations
4. Analytical and research skills, with the ability to interpret data and synthesise information
5. A collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for working as part of a team
6. Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage time and priorities effectively
7. A genuine interest in the built environment, including urban regeneration, housing, transport, net zero and related current affairs

Experience with tools such as GIS, PowerBI, economic modelling or Better Business Case training is welcomed but not essential.

This role does not meet the criteria for visa sponsorship under the UK immigration system. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.

What we offer you

At Arup, we care about each member’s success, so we can grow together.

Guided by our values, we provide an attractive total reward package that recognises the contribution of each of our members to our shared success. As well as competitive, fair and equitable pay, we offer a career in which all of our members can belong, grow and thrive – through benefits that support health and wellbeing, a wide range of learning opportunities and many possibilities to have an impact through the work they do.

We are owned in trust on behalf of our members, giving us the freedom, with personal responsibility, to set our own direction and choose work that aligns with our purpose and adds to Arup’s legacy. Our members collaborate on ambitious projects to deliver remarkable outcomes for our clients and communities. Profit Share is a key part of our reward, enabling members to share in the results of our collective efforts.

We also provide Private medical insurance, Life assurance, Accident insurance and Income protection cover. In addition, you’ll have access to flexible benefits to help you look after all aspects of your wellbeing and give you the freedom and flexibility to find the best solutions for you, your family, and your individual needs.
