For Scotland’s Mental Health

Post: Support Worker Level 2

Ref: REC

Location: Castlemilk, Glasgow (ARBD Hoddam Service)

Salary: £24, - £25, (£12.60 - £12.85 per hour, salary point 13-19*)

*Whilst this is a scale for progression, the starting salary is point 13

Hours: 37.5 per week

Contract: Permanent

Are you someone who thrives in a role where every day brings new challenges and opportunities to make a real difference?

At Hoddam Care Home, we support 8 individuals living with Alcohol Related Brain Damage (ARBD). ARBD is a condition where there are changes to the structure and functions of the brain as a result of long-term heavy alcohol use. It can result in problems with memory, judgement, and a person's ability to live independently. (REF Mental Welfare Commission above))

Our service is based in Castlemilk and provides 24/7 care in a supportive environment. Some residents may continue to use alcohol, and our team provides non-judgmental support through challenging periods, always guided by compassion and understanding. This may mean having to support them through difficult periods and manage challenging behaviours with compassion and understanding of their underlying condition.

We’re looking for Support Workers who are resilient, empathetic, and confident working in complex situations. You’ll be part of a close-knit team helping individuals:

• Engage with addiction recovery services

• Improve their mental health and wellbeing

• Build daily routines and regain independence

• Develop personalised support plans and review progress

This is a shift-based role, including early and late shifts, plus weekly sleepovers (paid at an enhanced rate). You’ll also be part of an on-call rota to ensure consistent support.

What we are looking for

We are looking for motivated and committed individuals to join our team of existing support staff. It is important that you have shared values with SAMH to include respect for others and a desire to encourage and promote recovery and a good standard of living for those we support.

The ability to work as part of a team is essential. Although knowledge and experience of working with addiction is desirable it is not essential and would welcome applications from people with lived experience themselves..

Ready to take the next step?

If you’re passionate about supporting people through both the challenges and the breakthroughs, we’d love to hear from you. If you’re ready to be part of a team that supports people through both challenges and breakthroughs, apply now and help us make a lasting impact.

A diagnosis of ARBD acknowledges the serious damage of long-term heavy drinking on a person's brain. There are different forms of ARBD and symptoms vary with each individual. We recommend all applicants take a look at the attached guide on ARBD and strongly encourage any questions about this during the recruitment process.
