Are you an experienced team leader with a background in fast-paced, hands-on agricultural or food production environments? We're looking for an Assistant Harvesting Manager to support the Harvesting Manager in overseeing day-to-day operations across our site.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the achievement of set hourly picking rates by monitoring quality and output.
Coach, train, and mentor Pickers, Placers, and Supervisors to consistently meet performance targets.
Organise and manage workforce allocation across production rooms, including agency coordination where required.
Conduct daily crop assessments to ensure staffing plans align with yield projections.
Plan daily operations in line with sales and production targets through regular communication with internal teams.
Oversee quality control measures including weight, sizing, packaging, and presentation.
Maintain training schedules and competency tracking for new starters.
Promote teamwork, motivation, and a safety-first culture.
Take part in daily planning meetings and communicate operational updates across departments.
Ensure adherence to company standards around hygiene, traceability, and safe working practices.
Actively participate in internal food safety, TACCP, and HACCP groups.
Input performance data and picker sheets accurately into the system for payroll.
Monitor picker statistics and address underperformance in line with company policy.
Champion innovation and continuous improvement across harvesting operations.
Ensure all activities comply with company and industry health and safety legislation.
Essential Skills & Experience:
Previous hands-on experience in crop picking or similar production environments
Proven experience in a supervisory or team leader role
Strong organisational and planning abilities
Confident communicator with excellent interpersonal skills
Basic IT literacy and good numerical skills
Team-oriented and supportive leadership style
Desirable:
Experience in a management role in crop harvesting
Advanced Food Hygiene Certification
Higher education qualification in a relevant field
