DT Technician – Food Technology & Textiles

We are partnering with a well-resourced secondary school in Hackney seeking a DT Technician (Food Technology & Textiles) to assist teachers and students. You’ll play a key role in ensuring lessons run smoothly, safely, and efficiently.
What you’ll be doing:
Food Technology Support
1. Preparing ingredients and setting up cooking stations
2. Managing food stock, checking expiry dates, and ensuring safe storage
3. Maintaining hygiene standards across kitchens and equipment
4. Supporting food safety compliance
Textiles Support
5. Setting up and maintaining sewing machines and textile equipment
6. Preparing fabrics, threads, and materials for lessons
7. Assisting students with practical activities such as sewing and dyeing
8. Organising and maintaining textile resources
General Responsibilities
9. Supporting teachers and students during practical lessons
10. Ensuring compliance with health & safety, risk assessments, and COSHH
11. Managing resources, stock control, and storage areas
12. Assisting with displays, admin tasks, and day-to-day department needs
13. Creating a safe, positive, and well-organised learning environment
What the school is looking for:
14. A practical, hands-on individual with strong organisational skills
15. Good understanding of health, safety, and hygiene procedures
16. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
17. Confident communication skills with young people
18. Previous school or workshop experience is desirable but not essential
