Role purpose
Bridges is currently looking to hire a Mechanical Design Engineer on a permanent basis.
We are hiring due to continued growth and expanding expertise. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring project success and efficiency by providing accurate, consistent designs within budgets and timelines.
This role offers the opportunity to work on MEICA engineering projects across the water industry, collaborating with all 10 main water and sewage companies in England and Wales.

Our projects range from £5k to £15m, involving roles as Principal Contractor and Principal Designer, supporting Tier 1 contractors and off-site manufacturing.
The Role
We offer a hybrid working model (3 days in-office, 2 days remote) with flexible options, on a 42.5-hour Monday to Friday contract.
Responsibilities include:
1. Producing mechanical designs based on specifications, standards, and site investigations
2. Driving innovation and continuous improvement in projects
3. Supporting less technical team members with equipment specifications
4. Coordinating with project managers and commercial teams
5. Attending site visits during and after projects
6. Presenting technical information during client meetings
Requirements
* Minimum 3 years’ experience in mechanical design
* Relevant qualification such as HNC, HND, or degree (desirable)
* Experience in:
o Mechanical systems design
o Site general arrangement design (2D/3D)
o Design project coordination
o Chemical dosing and water quality monitoring
* Proficiency in Autodesk 2D/3D CAD and Microsoft Office
* Specific water industry design experience
