Overview
Key purpose of the job: As a Social Care Worker, you will provide holistic supports with day-to-day living for individuals with a learning disability, autism or associated mental health needs. You will deliver person-centred and empowering provisions of support to meet the individual needs of our service users.
Main responsibilities
* Provide assistance to Service Users in all aspects of personal care.
* Ensure the Human Rights of each Service User are exercised with integrity and respect.
* Maintain a safe environment for Service Users, staff, and visitors.
* Support Service Users to live in accordance with their own wishes and preferences, promoting individuality through new opportunities, skills, and abilities.
* Provide information to Service Users to enable informed decision making at all levels.
* Support Service Users in the least restrictive way and encourage positive risk taking as part of decision-making.
* Provide support in a low arousal and non-aversive manner.
* Set clear personal outcomes with goals, steps, and timeframes for each Service User.
* Prioritise supports and keep key commitments; work in line with evidence-based practices.
* Support Service Users to live life to their fullest potential and remain socially valued in their communities.
* Contribute positively to the staff team and wider organisation.
Regulation
* Maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness in the residential setting; adhere to safe food practices and infection control procedures, documented appropriately.
* Maintain folders, reports, risk assessments, and daily paperwork.
* Follow medication administration procedures (10 rights) and ensure documentation is accurate and timely.
* Adhere to safeguarding policies for Service Users’ medications and finances; comply with all organisational policies and regulatory frameworks (notably RQIA).
* Attend meetings and service user reviews; provide feedback to management and the wider MDT as appropriate.
* Participate in regulatory, mandatory, and development training as assigned.
* Contribute to a high-quality, professional service within the team and across locations.
Person Specification – Social Care Worker
Qualifications & Experience
* Third Level Qualification or equivalent in Social Care or related discipline, and/or
* A minimum of 2 years’ employment experience in a similar role (e.g., Day Services; Domiciliary Care; Residential Care; Learning Disability; Autism).
* Experience of supporting individuals who present with challenging behaviour.
* Competent in the use of Microsoft Word & Outlook; working knowledge of regulatory frameworks and best practice as set out by RQIA.
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and experience in creating data sheets; familiarity with Intranet/SharePoint for information sharing & storage.
Other
* It is essential that applicants hold a full (not provisional) and current UK/ROI driving licence and have access to a car and business insurance for work purposes, or have access to a means of transport enabling duties (applicable to applicants with a disability under the Disability Discrimination Act).
