Job Title: Behaviour Specialist Tutor

Location: City of London
Position Type: Contract
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: £30 - £35 Per Hour

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Behaviour Specialist Tutor to work with a Secondary student who is experiencing Emotional School-Based Avoidance (ESBA). This role is pivotal in supporting the student's emotional and academic development, providing tailored educational strategies, and creating a positive, safe learning environment both in and outside of school settings.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in working with students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), particularly in managing and supporting behaviour and emotional difficulties. You will work closely with school staff, parents, and external agencies to ensure a coordinated and holistic approach to the student’s education.

Key Responsibilities:

* Individualised Support: Provide 1:1 tutoring tailored to the student's needs, focusing on building academic skills and managing emotional barriers to learning.

* Behaviour Management: Use evidence-based strategies to support the student in managing emotional difficulties, reducing school-based avoidance, and improving engagement with education.

* Collaborative Working: Work closely with school staff (teachers, SENCO, pastoral teams), parents, and external specialists to create an integrated approach to the student’s education and wellbeing.

* Emotional Regulation Support: Support the student in developing coping strategies, self-regulation techniques, and emotional resilience to reduce instances of avoidance.

* Assessment and Monitoring: Regularly assess the student’s progress academically and emotionally, setting achievable targets and adjusting the support plan accordingly.

* Crisis Intervention: Be prepared to provide immediate, short-term interventions in moments of emotional distress, ensuring the student's safety and wellbeing.

* Holistic Development: Promote the student’s confidence, social skills, and self-esteem to ensure they are able to reintegrate fully into the school environment when appropriate.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

* Experience working with SEN students: At least 1 year of experience supporting students with Emotional and Behavioural difficulties, particularly those experiencing school-based anxiety or avoidance.

* Behavioural Strategies: Strong understanding of evidence-based behavioural management techniques and approaches to support students with emotional and behavioural challenges.

* Education & Training: A relevant degree (e.g., Psychology, Education, Special Educational Needs) or equivalent professional qualifications.

* Emotional Support Expertise: Experience working with students with anxiety, school refusal, or emotional difficulties, and the ability to develop tailored intervention plans.

* Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with young people, parents, and school staff.

* Patience and Resilience: Ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to the student’s emotional needs, providing consistent and empathetic support.

* Commitment to Inclusive Education: A strong commitment to promoting equality, inclusion, and positive mental health in educational settings.

Desirable Skills:

* Knowledge of ESBA: Experience or training in Emotional School-Based Avoidance (ESBA) and its impact on learning.

* Therapeutic Approaches: Familiarity with therapeutic methods such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques or other relevant interventions for managing anxiety in young people.

* Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): Experience working with students on the autism spectrum, especially those with co-occurring emotional difficulties.

* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): While not essential, a teaching qualification would be an advantage.

Why Join Us?

* Supportive Environment: Be part of a caring, multidisciplinary team that prioritises the wellbeing and success of each student.

* Professional Development: Opportunities for ongoing training and development, including SEN-specific professional development.

* Positive Impact: Make a real difference in the life of a young person by supporting their academic journey and emotional wellbeing.

* Location: Work in the heart of the City of London, with access to excellent transport links and a variety of resources
