We are hiring a Sr. Safety Manager for Underground projects in North America, and offer a long term career in Safety for a strong construction safety leader that wants to lead teams, solve problems and willing to travel In this role, you will be responsible for providing oversight of all safety activities and leadership of assigned safety resources for your assigned project within the Underground division. This division supports projects that involve underground construction in all of our market areas including Power, Oil and Gas, Transportation, Mining, Industrial and Water/Wastewater. Our Safety Managers are expected to travel where the work is and are hands on Managers, working at the sites, involved in safety investigations, and inspections in the field. District Overview Kiewit has been rated by ENR as the 1 Design/Build contractor in North America and has the experience, technology and equipment to complete even the most complex tunneling projects. Our Underground Division has been constructing underground facilities (tunneling, deep foundations) since 1949, and has completed more than 100 underground-related projects totaling more than $1B. Our long standing success is built on our depth of expertise, safety record, access to specialty equipment and the ability to self-perform work. We are recognized as a leader in the tunneling industry and our services include TBM Rock, TBM soft ground, sequential excavation, drill and blast, shaft excavation, tunnel rehab and numerous trenchless methods. Location We are hiring for a large project starting late summer/early fall, Marlboro NY. We often relocate our teams or provide per diem and travel support to our project locations. Must be willing to relocate or travel as needed to where the work is located. Responsibilities • Managing the company environmental health and safety programs at the project level, driving a safety-oriented approach to work. • Compiling, analyzing, and interpreting occupational illness and accident statistical data at the project level; recommending process and product safety features that will reduce employee exposure to chemical, physical, and biological work hazards. • Routinely inspecting the facilities, machinery, and safety equipment in order to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance. • Routinely monitoring the workforce for unsafe behaviors and coach employees on the correct behaviors when observed. • Developing environmental health and safety training materials to include manuals, brochures, PowerPoint presentations etc. • Developing a paperwork management system to track training records to track all safety training initiatives conducted personally or by outside consultants/vendors. • Interpreting safety regulations for the project. • Coordinating and presenting safety training to support client requirements including new hire orientation, fall protection, confined space, lockout/tagout and repertory. • Interfacing with Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) (Provincial or federal) officials/inspectors in the event or a site visit. Qualifications Bachelor's or Associates degree in Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, Construction, EHS or similar degree program preferred. Minimum of 15 years in safety for construction projects with a minimum of 5 years as an EHS professional/rep in construction. Must have successful completion of the following training courses: a. Four hour BEDC EHS Standards b. Thirty- hour OSHA construction safety and health training; c. hazardous waste remediation or forty hour HAZWOPER training; d. Resource Conservation Recovery Act/DOT hazardous waste/manifesting training e. Confined space training or permit f. BEDC spill prevention and control g. Control of hazardous energy sources (lockout/tagout); Training in hazards such as stormwater control, scaffolding, cranes, excavation, underground construction, drill and shoot, highly desired Must have extensive experience with hazard identification, evaluation and controls, and be knowledgeable of EHS requirements set forth by governing laws, rules and regulations as well as Best Management Practices. Must have completed OSHA 10-Hour construction training or OSHA 30 hour training within the last five (5) years. Eperience working with underground projects not required, but must be willing and able to work underground. Experience providing safety training to others, and developing safe work plans is required on a construction site Experience with job hazard recognition, record keeping and injury management experience required Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environments, around large, moving equipment and willingness to work underground and on rotating shifts that may include nights and weekends. Willingness to relocate to project sites across the USA for an extended period of time. Ability to demonstrate independent professional judgement given limited supervision Strong communication skills, strong work ethics and able to work independently and as part of a team.
