Description
We are looking for a Systems Engineer with experience in defining large‑scale systems, services and applications within a mission‑critical systems / services integration environment. The role will support the execution of Systems Engineering activities on a large‑scale system‑of‑systems integration project, working with operational users, stakeholders and architects to define text‑based and model‑based requirements, architecture and design artefacts.
Location & Clearance
Hybrid role – Whiteley, Hampshire (near Portsmouth). The successful candidate must hold an SC clearance and will work mainly remotely with regular commuting to Whiteley.
Key Responsibilities
* Technical delivery of a significant portion of engineering activity of the assigned programme.
* Support the definition of the engineering life‑cycle, ensuring relevant engineering tasks in the scope of work are delivered appropriately.
* Work with operational stakeholders, technology suppliers and architects to define system‑of‑system level requirements.
* Allocate requirements to lower‑level services and conduct technical derivation analysis as required.
* Model functional requirements and scenarios inside MBSE and architectural framework approaches.
* Capture non‑functional requirements within DOORS.
* Manage compliance assessments at the system‑of‑systems, system and lower‑level systems & services levels.
* Develop lower‑level designs for owned areas of the system.
* Deliver or contribute to milestone technical reviews and associated work‑product deliverables.
* Define architectural solutions comprising multiple underpinning COTS and bespoke designs, and drive competitive selection of these technologies.
* Model operational, business and system behaviours within architectural views.
* Conduct cost/benefit/technical trade studies.
* Produce detailed engineering artefacts such as:
o Detailed Designs
o Definition of user interfaces
o Failure modes analysis
o Service Management Designs
o Designs for onboarding service applications onto virtualised infrastructures
o Compliance Reports
o Security, HF and Safety artefacts
o Capacity and Throughput analysis
Required Skills
* Experience with architecture modelling tools (e.g. Sparx Enterprise Architect, MagicDraw Cameo).
* Experience with Architecture Modelling Frameworks and Languages (e.g. TOGAF, MODAF, NAF, SysML, Archimate).
* Success in large‑scale, mission‑critical and complex integration programmes.
* Ability to work with multiple stakeholders and suppliers across organisational boundaries.
* Experience developing system behavioural diagrams, modelling interfaces and encapsulating functional requirements.
* Demonstrable successes within the Systems Engineering environment.
* Strong customer‑facing skills, able to digest large volumes of requirements and understand customer priorities.
* Demonstrable knowledge of adjacent disciplines (programme management, customer relationship management, supplier management, service management).
* Experience conducting detailed systems engineering trade solutions to assess options & feasibility.
* Knowledge of requirements and user scenario development in both text‑based and model‑based approaches.
* Understanding of designing/delivering systems in a virtualised environment.
* Experience with Service‑Oriented Architectures.
Desired Skills
* ITIL including Service Management Roles & Processes.
* Knowledge of Air Traffic Management or other safety‑related systems.
* Commitment to sharing ideas, technologies and best practices.
* Experience with service management, assurance and regulation requirements across functional boundaries.
* Willingness to offer fresh, innovative ideas and/or unconventional approaches.
* Ability to deliver clear messages through dialogue, written work and formal presentation.
Pay Range
£47,600.00 – £61,000.00 (general guideline).
