Senior Structural Engineer

Senior Structural Engineers make up the body of the engineering department and are responsible for carrying out the day-to-day developments of the design through the design process.
The Senior Structural Engineer is fundamentally a hands-on analysis and design-based role within the Civil & Structural department that generally includes interfacing with other engineering disciplines in the project design team.
The Senior Structural Engineer also has a shared managerial responsibility in respect of Graduates, Apprentices and/or Designers in the team as and when required to do so.
To be considered for the Senior Structural Engineer position the applicant must be delivering functions above that of a Design Engineer.
Reporting to
Principal Engineer.
Key Accountabilities for a Senior Structural Engineer
1. Preparation of design documentation throughout the design process
2. Development of designs to satisfy technical specifications
3. Prepare supporting design calculations to substantiate design
4. Contribution to design reviews
5. Preparation of technical specifications
6. Preparation of risk assessments, technical files and other technical documentation required by safety legislation and procedures
Duties and Requirements for a Senior Structural Engineer
Essential
7. A safety culture
8. Knowledge of the fundamentals of structures and foundations using Reinforced Concrete and Structural Steel.
9. Design experience in Reinforced Concrete and Structural Steel.
10. Knowledge and understanding of Structural steel connections and connection types.
11. Demonstrable competence gained in a design delivery position
12. Ability to work to tight deadlines,
13. A strong team player.
Desirable
14. Nuclear experience or experience from within a highly regulated industry,
15. A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel with overnight stays overs occasionally
16. Experience of supervision.
Occupational Skills and Knowledge
A recognised Engineering Certificate such as HNC / HND / Degree
