Specialist Clinical Pharmacist Haematology/Oncology

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Specialist Clinical Pharmacist to join our Cancer team.This post will offer you a fantastic opportunity to experience many aspects of Cancer Services including working in the either oncology or haematology clinic and contributing to multi-disciplinary ward rounds for both haematology and solid tumour oncology patients.You will be uniquely placed to provide excellent patient care to oncology and haematology patients. This position will benefit from being fully supported and trained by our friendly and dedicated team, allowing you to develop both personally and professionally.


Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be a specialist in adult haematology and solid tumour oncology and be professionally and managerially responsible for the provision of pharmaceutical care to the Cancer Services at NUHThe role will involve clinical screening of inpatient and outpatient Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies (SACT), providing clinical ward cover to inpatient haematology and oncology wards and working as part of an MDT making decisions about best care for our patients. The post holder will work collaboratively with the Aseptic Unit to ensure safe and effective provision of medicines to oncology and haematology patients.The post-holder will also contribute to clinical audits, research trials, and service evaluations To provide the 'best possible clinical pharmacy service'.The role will involve providing support, education, and training of pharmacy staff and healthcare professionals.

Job responsibilities

Lead and manage clinical pharmacy services in Haematology & Oncology in conjunction with the Advanced Pharmacy Practitioners for Haematology and Oncology.Attend ward rounds, MDT meetings and make decisions as part of the MDT for cancer patients at the trustManage and screen chemotherapy for inpatients and outpatients at the trust.Monitor clinical pharmacy services for Haematology & Oncology patients in accordance with departmental priorities to ensure safe, clinically effective and cost-effective use of drugs in these patientsEnsure that the quality of the pharmacy services is benchmarked against services provided by other local Trusts.Collaborate, network and liaise with other cancer services pharmacists within the Network to ensure appropriate service and practice developments are implemented in a timely fashionEnsure delivery of the pharmacy clinical governance agenda in Cancer ServicesTo line manage or tutor junior pharmacists, rotational pharmacists and trainee pharmacists.Have the opportunity to act as a designated prescribing practitioner (DPP) for junior and trainee pharmacists.To support and issue the implementation and audit of plans, guidelines, procedures, policies and service changes within the production unit.To work effectively as part of a team in a multi-disciplinary and pharmacy environment and maintain rapport with medical and other colleagues.Ensuring safe and efficient working and supporting staff to ensure they are fit for work and workload is distributed equally.To lead and implement service development projects to grow the service and always aim higher for a better quality of care.

To partake in specialised clinical pharmacy duties ensuring core clinical pharmacy activities are undertakenTo provide a specialist level patient-facing clinical service to oncology and haematology patientsTo develop the provision of advanced clinical practice promoting safe and evidenced-based practice and contributing to improved clinical outcomes and services to patientsTo line manage and support more junior pharmacists in the listed specialtiesTo take full part in the 7-day shifted rota and bank holidays duties.


Person Specification


Training and Qualification

* B. Pharm / BSc (Pharmacy) or MPharm
* Clinical Diploma or equivalent
* General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
* BOPA SACT Verification Passport or evidence of BOPA Digital SACT Verification Passport journey:
* To be qualified as a pharmacist independent prescriber or working towards
* To hold evidence of practice at advanced stage II, as part of the RPS Advanced Pharmacy
* Leadership and/or management qualifications


Experience

* Extensive previous hospital experience (post-registration)
* Experience in providing specialist pharmacist review of people with cancer.
* Experience of delivering clinical pharmacy service and advice relating to the safe use of medicines
* Experience of training and education of both pharmacy staff and other health care professionals
* Experience in undertaking, supervising and reporting/presenting audit / research work at local (Trust) level
* Publication of audit/research/clinical work at national level
* Experience of introduction of new cancer therapies to NHS trust, including formulary application and electronic prescribing templates
* Experience of leading and delivering clinical pharmacy service to a clinical speciality
