This is key to enabling us to deliver on the promises we've made to the people of Wales to build a sustainable transport network that meets their needs.Role responsibilitiesThe Head of Operational Safety will be responsible for leading and directing the team of professional Operators responsible for defining, collating, distributing, updating and maintaining the operating and traincrew standards for the safe and effective operations of Transport for Wales. They will actively monitor compliance with systems, processes and procedures to ensure operational standards are achieved and maintained. Act as a member of the directorate's senior leadership team, whilst also fulfilling the role of Professional Head of Operational Safety as set out in the Safety Management System. To establish, develop and specify the business operations, traincrew and safety standards which meet the full requirements of industry standards and Codes of Practice by means of professional experience and expertise. Design, develop and authorise, where required, new and existing Traction and Traincrew operating publications in conjunction with TfW Fleet engineering and the Operations Training. Establish a system for ensuring that where necessary the requirements of industry standards are developed as operations and company standards and that handbooks, working instructions and other processes are updated to reflect any revised requirements. Who we're looking for Strong leadership and management skills Competent as a train driver or with experience of mainline train driving Experience of audit processes and understanding/complying with a Safety Management System Experience of leading investigations into complex incidents Understanding of railway standards (e.g. RIS) and best practice (e.g. RSSB research) Ability to work cross functionally and communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders Ability to correctly analyse and present data, especially in Microsoft Excel, Word & Power Point Welsh Language SkillsThe ability to speak/write Welsh would make a great addition to your application, but it is not essential for this role.Transport for Wales supports and promotes the use of the Welsh Language by employees and will encourage them to develop, improve and maintain their Welsh Language skills.
