A vacancy has arisen for 1 x Youth Justice Worker and 1 x Lead Youth Justice Service Probation Officer within Sandwell. The role involves working closely with young people to support them in ensuring compliance with court orders and out‑of‑court disposals, safeguarding, and public protection.
Responsibilities
* Adhere to the YJB Performance Management Framework and national standards.
* Manage a caseload of children subject to community or custodial sentences, focusing on older adolescents (16‑18) and preparing them for transition to adult probation.
* Ensure safeguarding of children and young people, including timely completion of Risk, Safety and Well‑being Management Plans and participation in Multi‑Agency Public Protection Arrangements where relevant.
* Maintain accurate information systems.
* Deliver direct work/creative interventions to young people on a 1:1 basis or in small groups.
* Attend court and represent the Youth Justice Service when required.
* Maintain health and safety of employees.
* Liaise with other agencies regarding welfare and risk factors, attend relevant meetings, and refer to specialist services.
* Actively promote best‑value principles of continuous improvement and excellence in service provision.
Qualifications and Experience
* National qualification (degree level) in a youth‑related subject, social work, probation, or education, and/or a minimum of 3 years professional experience in a youth justice setting.
* At least 2 years' experience working with young people and their families.
* Experience working as part of a multi‑agency team in Youth Justice, Probation or a related setting.
* Experience of court work.
* Basic computer skills, including use of the Youth Justice System database (preferably Childview) and ASSET plus assessment package.
Salary and Contract
Band F, SBC 26‑31 (£37,280 – £41,771 per annum). 37 hours per week. Fixed‑term contract until March 2027.
