Senior Auditor - Local Authority - 6 month contract
* Location: Leicester
* Hybrid 1 day in office per fortnight
* £250 per day
We are currently partnering with a prominent public sector organisation to recruit a dedicated Senior Auditor for their finance and auditing department. This pivotal role focuses on providing internal audit assurance and consultancy services, particularly in relation to major current and emerging risks as well as complex, political, and sensitive issues.
Day-to-day of the role:
* Conduct a portfolio of risk-based audits, focusing on new or emerging complex, technical, political, and sensitive issues.
* Develop clear audit scopes, evaluate controls, design tests, and obtain sufficient evidence to form opinions and provide assurance.
* Report findings verbally and in writing, offering balanced recommendations for improvements.
* Manage assigned work to ensure delivery within allocated budget and timeframes.
* Provide guidance and support/training as necessary to peers, auditees, and other stakeholders.
* Engage in research and provide high-level advice on new and emerging risks as directed by Audit Managers.
* Undertake specific unplanned work or investigations into irregularities and fraud, including providing evidence for disciplinary procedures or court hearings.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
* Qualified Accountant with either Financial or Audit Qualification
* At least 4 years post qualification experience.
* Demonstrable experience in undertaking risk-based internal audits of complex, technical, political, and sensitive issues.
* Strong knowledge of risk management and corporate governance frameworks.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to operate successfully within political, corporate, policy, and/or financial constraints.
