Candour Talent are recruiting a Production Shift Manager for their client based in Newport.
Employment Type: Permanent/Full Time
Working Hours: Monday to Friday – 3-shift rota
Salary: £40k + discretionary bonus (10%) + 33 days annual leave + Life Assurance + Various discounts
This is an excellent opportunity for a self-motivated and results-driven leader to join a growing food-manufacturing facility in the Newport area. As a Production Shift Manager, the successful candidate will take full responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the production area, ensuring the highest levels of productivity, performance, and quality to achieve customer satisfaction and compliance standards. You will be accountable for meeting targets and driving a culture of continuous improvement.
The role would suit an individual with experience in the food industry, or similar, with excellent people and leadership skills.
The Role:
* Ensure a 100% safe working environment by enforcing company H&S policies and procedures, ensuring team members adhere to PPE protocols, and maintaining a safe working environment free of hazards via regular walking audits, reporting/escalating risks, and resolving any issues.
* Investigate any HSE incidents and accidents and encourage team members to generate HSE incidents reports in a proactive safety culture.
* Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
* Work with Technical team to meet all food safety regulations, ensuring full BRC (British Retail Consortium) compliance
* Take ownership of all quality documentation, ensuring accuracy, precision, and traceability.
* Investigate and implement corrective actions regarding customer complaints and actively look for ways to reduce the number of complaints
* Drive continuous quality improvement
* Ensure the site is hygiene compliant and all lines are cleaned to a satisfactory standard each changeover and end of week clean
* Follow all allergen rules and ensure the team comply with procedures
* Ensure teams are following HACCP
* Maximize production efficiency by ensuring all lines, people and processes are adhering to standard operating procedures
* Deliver manufacturing standards and performance KPIs efficiently and consistently
* Lead the daily operations meeting, providing a thorough review of the previous 24 hours and the next 24-hour plans
* Analyse performance and report to senior management
* Site management responsibility out of hours
* Take full accountability for material usage, waste reduction and labour productivity, and drive cost-saving initiatives, such as waste reduction, reducing inefficiencies and maximizing resource
* Manage shift staffing levels, including holiday planning, break allocation, and overtime
* Adhere to production schedules to meet customer demand
* Ensure smooth handovers and flag key issues
* Take full responsibility for production readiness, ensuring all equipment and resources are prepared for shift handovers
* Set clear and measurable KPIs
* Conduct annual performance appraisals and regular check-ins to drive team development
* Develop and mentor team members, identifying training needs and fostering a culture of growth
* Lead, motivate, coach, and delegate effectively
* Handle disciplinary, grievance, and performance management processes, ensuring fair and effective resolution
* Identify, lead, and implement continuous improvement initiatives
* Drive LEAN manufacturing principle
* Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure sustainable improvements are embedded in daily
The Ideal Candidate
Experience in a supervisory role within food production or equivalent
ILM Level 2 or equivalent leadership qualification.
Proficiency in MRP/ERP systems
Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) - Managing Safely
Food Safety Level 3 & Allergen Awareness
Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
