The Best Connection Mansfield are currently recruiting for an experienced Gardener to join the local council based in Mansfield, starting 1st April.
In this role, you will undertake a wide range of grounds maintenance and horticultural duties across public parks, nature reserves, playing fields, housing estates, allotments, cemeteries, and other local green spaces. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors and has a genuine interest in horticulture and landscaping.
Similar experience in gardening or grounds maintenance is beneficial but not essential.
A full UK driving licence is essential.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out a variety of skilled gardening and horticultural tasks, including interpreting plans, preparing sites, hard and soft landscaping, and basic tree care
* Perform general horticultural duties such as planting, pruning, seeding, hoeing, raking, edging, grass cutting, hedge trimming, and leaf clearing
* Set out and maintain sports areas, including artificial/synthetic pitches, and apply chemical treatments where appropriate
* Erect and dismantle sports and event equipment as required
* Open and secure buildings on site daily
* Collect money and issue tickets for facilities when necessary
* Assist with snow clearing operations
* Clean and maintain sports facilities such as changing rooms and toilets
* Work with minimal supervision and occasionally oversee trainees or small teams of up to six staff
* Deputise for the Area Team Leader when required
* Complete paperwork and follow work schedules accurately
* Handle vehicles, machinery, and equipment responsibly and safely
* Follow all Health & Safety policies, council procedures, and codes of conduct
* Work in line with equality, diversity, and data protection standards
* Engage with digital working methods and support new ways of working
* Carry out any other reasonable duties appropriate to the role
Working Hours
Monday - Friday: 7:00am - 4:00pm
(30‑minute break)
Pay Rate
Pay depends on experience:
* Starting from National Minimum Wage
* Up to £13.47 per hour for experienced gardeners
Requirements
* Full UK Driving Licence - Essential
* Ability to work outdoors in all weather
* Good level of fitness
* Positive attitude and reliability
