Job summary
An excellent opportunity to join the Royal United Hospital Bath NHS Foundation Trust (RUH) as a Cellular Pathology Laboratory Manager.
This role offers the chance to be part of a professional, cohesive, and well-established team at RUH in Bath. You will lead a large, skilled team to ensure the smooth running of the Cellular Pathology discipline.
You will join the Pathology leadership team, including the Clinical Director, Pathology Services Manager, and Blood Sciences Laboratory Manager, to create and implement the strategic vision for Pathology. You will play a significant role in transformational projects, particularly within Histopathology, as part of the West of England Pathology Network.
The service covers Histopathology, Non-Gynae Cytology (including andrology), and mortuary services for BaNES, Wiltshire, and North Somerset. The department processes thousands of histopathology requests, immunocytochemistry slides, non-gynaecological specimens, and conducts post-mortems annually. It transitioned to UKAS 15189 in August 2024, and the mortuary is HTA-licensed.
Main duties of the job
Lead service change and quality improvements, including implementing a Managed Equipment Service. Drive digital transformation initiatives, such as the Fujifilm Synapse digital reporting system and Ibex AI for prostate biopsies, fully integrated with Ultra 4.5 LIMS.
Support staff development, including training Biomedical Scientists and maintaining IBMS Training Laboratory status. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and contribute to service development and innovation.
Qualifications and experience
Essential:
* Biomedical Science (Hons) degree or equivalent
* HCPC registered BMS
* Fellow of the IBMS or relevant MSc
Desirable:
* Management qualification (e.g., DMS, CMS, MBA)
Knowledge and Experience:
* Practical and theoretical knowledge of Cellular Pathology
* Managerial experience in a clinical laboratory
* Knowledge of new technology in the discipline
* Strong influencing skills for implementing change
Specific Skills:
* Ability to analyze complex data for decision-making and planning
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
