Role Overview
First point of contact for musculoskeletal care, working with GPs and practice teams, assessing, diagnosing and managing patients.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct face‑to‑face and remote assessments, taking thorough histories and performing physical examinations.
* Diagnose and develop independent management plans, including prescribing analgesia, ordering imaging, ordering blood tests and referring to secondary care.
* Identify red flags, serious pathology and psychosocial barriers; provide safety‑netting advice and arrange urgent follow‑up.
* Deliver evidence‑based advice, exercise prescription and health promotion to enable patient self‑management.
* Liaise with GPs, nurses, pharmacists and social prescribers; participate in monthly FCP IST training.
* Maintain accurate records in the practice clinical system using agreed templates and coding.
* Develop integrated care programmes in partnership with patients, supporting shared decision‑making and self‑management.
* Utilise diagnostic tests appropriately; interpret results with clinical judgement.
* Serve as a resource within the primary care team, contributing to guidelines, preventative strategies and service standards.
* Engage in research, audit and evidence‑based practice, disseminating findings within the team.
* Communicate effectively with patients, carers and multidisciplinary teams, managing expectations and explaining treatment outcomes.
Qualifications
* BSc/MSc degree in Physiotherapy.
* Health & Care Professions Council registration.
* Evidence of Level 7 (ACP) capability in MSK practice or equivalent.
* Completed FCP qualification (signed‑off portfolio or HEI course).
* Knowledge of joint and soft‑tissue injections.
Experience
* Independent diagnosis and management of varied MSK conditions.
* Experience in applying the physiotherapy process to MSK assessment, interpretation and care planning.
* Working knowledge of GP IT systems, EMIS/SystmOne and prescribing data.
* Experience contributing to evidence‑led practice in primary care.
* Collaborative experience with diverse stakeholders.
* Prior supervisory experience.
