Medical Secretary (with some reception duties) We are looking for a secretary to support the GPs and the practice manager in this small and friendly family practice. We are offering 20 hours of work over five mornings, with a starting hourly rate of £12.75.
Main duties of the job Good, accurate typing skills, including audio typing, are essential. Knowledge of working in general practice and using GP computer systems (we use EMIS) would be very helpful. A large part of your work will also involve liaising, often by phone, with hospitals, professionals, patients, and their families.
About us This practice dates back to the 1870s and has been operating from this site since 1991. It is one of the smallest practices in the North East, serving 2,200 patients, most of whom live close to the practice in Prudhoe. We prioritize long-term personal continuity of care and easy access to our doctors, built on good relationships with patients and staff. Our success is reflected in some of the highest scores in England in the annual national GP Patient Survey.

If there are areas of this work that may be unfamiliar, we prefer to work with you to develop the necessary skills rather than hire the wrong person.
Due to the small size of the practice, roles often overlap among team members. This may result in your work being interrupted by a pressing need in reception. The start of the day may resemble a receptionist's role more than a secretary's. The job can be busy at times, but we aim to prevent stress and usually succeed.
Flexibility to support the receptionist or practice manager during holidays or cover extra hours for colleagues' absence would be beneficial.
We are looking for someone who can contribute warmly to the practice's running—someone friendly, helpful, kind, flexible, and capable.
