The Story

Stephen's Background and Professional Journey

Stephen began his career in the hospitality sector at the remarkably young age of 14. He successfully worked his way up through the ranks, starting as a Kitchen Porter and ultimately achieving the position of General Manager (GM) before leaving the trade in 2003. This journey included a notable period working on the prestigious cruise liner, the QE2.

Like many, Stephen then transitioned into recruitment. He established his business from his bedroom during the era of dial-up internet and bulky computers. Since then, he has come a long way, successfully building a core client base across Ireland for both temporary and permanent recruitment services.

Stephen, like most micro-business owners, firmly believes that quality counts. This commitment to quality has been evident in his business's resilience, as he has successfully navigated and maintained operations through both the 2008 financial crash and the COVID-19 pandemic.



Strategic Expansion and Team Building

After many years of operating solo, Stephen has now made the strategic decision to build a team. He has begun working with personnel in the Philippines and is now seeking a strong leader with extensive recruitment experience. This new hire is expected to be a proactive "driver," not a "passenger," allowing Stephen to explore new opportunities elsewhere while remaining available on the sidelines to assist when necessary.

This expansion represents a two-pronged approach: securing a key person at the top while simultaneously developing talent from the bottom up. The goal is to expand the business into major UK cities, including London, Manchester, Glasgow, and Edinburgh, thereby establishing a stronger foothold alongside the existing home market throughout Ireland.

Core Responsibilities

· Lead a team: This is a management position. You will be responsible for leading, mentoring and motivating a team of recruitment consultants. This will include setting performance goals, conducting regular 1-on-1’s, providing ongoing training and development and managing any underperformance issues.

· Manage a personal recruitment desk: Unlike a pure manager who focuses solely on their team, a Recruitment Billing Manager is a ‘player-coach’. You will be expected to maintain and grow your own portfolio of clients and candidates, and to hit personal billing targets.

· Drive revenue and performance: You will be ultimately responsible for the overall financial success of your own performance and that of your team. This will involve monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs), analyse billing metrics, and develop strategies to increase sales and profitability.

· Business Development: You will be actively involved in building and maintaining strong relationships with clients. This will include winning new business, negotiate contracts, and ensure client satisfaction.

· Candidate Management: You will oversee the entire recruitment lifecycle, from sourcing and screening candidates to managing the interview process and negotiating job offers.

· Process Improvement: A key part of the role will be to identify and implement strategies to improve the efficiency and accuracy of the billing and recruitment processes. This may involve working with finance and IT departments to streamline operations.

Key Skills and Qualifications

* Proven recruitment experience: This is a non-negotiable requirement. You must have a strong and documented history of success as a recruitment consultant, with a solid billing record.
* Leadership and management: You need to be a natural leader with excellent people management and coaching skills. The ability to inspire, motivate and develop a team is crucial.
* Communication and interpersonal skills: You will be dealing with a wide range of people, from clients and candidates to your own team and senior leadership. Strong verbal and written communication is essential.
* Commercial acumen: You must have a deep understanding of the business and a results-driven, commercial mindset. You should be able to identify business opportunities and contribute to the company's growth.
* Attention to detail: While a senior role, you still need to be able to manage the details of both the recruitment process and the billing cycle to ensure accuracy and compliance.
* Resilience and drive: The recruitment industry is fast-paced and competitive. You need to be highly motivated and able to work under pressure to meet targets.
